Have you ever stopped and asked yourself:
Why do I still have hope for this country?

I asked myself that recently — really sat with it — and the answer came quietly but unmistakably.

It was not the big moments.
It was not announcements or plans or promises of change.

It was people.

As I reflect on this, it becomes so clear to me: people choosing hope, choosing courage, choosing goodness — in the small, steady ways that matter most.

The small business owner who pays their staff fairly because dignity matters more than convenience.

The teenager who tells the truth even when it complicates things.
The colleague who admits a mistake and makes it right without hesitation.
The parent who apologises to their child, modelling accountability with humility.
The neighbour who chooses kindness when frustration is justified.

None of these choices are dramatic.
None of them trend.
None of them come with applause.

But they are the quiet threads that hold our shared life together.

And the more I pay attention, the more I realise:

Hope and ethics are intertwined.
Hope grows wherever people choose integrity.
Hope becomes real through the everyday decisions ordinary people make.

This is why I still have hope for this country.
Not because everything is perfect — far from it —
but because I see people who refuse to let go of what is good.

So as we close this year, I want to leave you with this:

Your choices matter.
Your small acts of integrity matter.
Your consistency and courage matter.

Every time you chose honesty…
kindness…
responsibility…
or compassion…

you brought hope into the world in ways you may never fully realise.

Thank you for the goodness you carried this year.
Thank you for living your values in the quiet places where character is formed.
Thank you for being one of the reasons I believe a better future is still possible.

As we enter this season of rest and gratitude, may you remember this:

Hope does not appear in grand gestures.
It is built — person by person, choice by choice.

From my heart to yours,
Ilene
