“It is wonderful to see what can happen if someone obeys the word of God” these were the words of Martin Haese, the Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide in South Australia after he has listened to the testimony of Graham Power. Graham was speaking to over 1200 business men and women at the South Australian Prayer Breakfast in the Convention Centre in Adelaide which is the biggest event of its kind in the whole of Australia.
But like many great stories, this amazing story didn’t start here. It started in 2013 when Rod Hook, former CEO of Transport and Infrastructure in Adelaide who is a highly respected and experienced leader started his own business called Rod Hook and Associates. Rod went on the Internet to look for this “Unashamedly Ethical” that he has heard of to build his new found business principles on. He signed his business up to “UE” and he also signed the Individual Commitment form. Since then, it has been Rod’s desire to see Graham Power come to Adelaide and share his amazing story to this City that he loves so much.
Graham’s visit started on the 5th October with an “Adelaide as ONE” event that was held in the first church building that was built in Adelaide called St. Peter’s Cathedral. It was an amazing evening where believers from different denominations and cultures came together for a time of worship and to pray specifically for Graham and the South Australian Prayer Breakfast (SAPB) event that would be held the next morning.
The SAPB the next morning was an amazing event. As previously stated, over 1200 business men and women, high profile leaders, politicians and school children came together to listen to Graham’s testimony. A testimony that challenged everyone in the room to stand up and to make a difference. Lo and behold, when the call came to stand if you are willing to make a difference, nearly everyone stood. This was highlighted by the number of people who signed the Individual Commitment form right there and then and gave it back to us to be captured on the “UE” database. In the days that followed we received scores of forms via email that was filled in by business people, politicians, leaders in the marketplace and school children also to be captured on the database.
Andrew Marshall from Marshall and Brougham Construction, who is also a respected leader in the community together with Rod Hook organised a meeting in the Hawke’s Building at UNISA where 65 leaders in the Construction Industry came together to listen to Graham. This was a great opportunity to share the gospel, as many of these leaders were not familiar with the gospel of Jesus Christ. After this meeting it was off to the local Christian radio station called LifeFM where Graham again was able to share his testimony with listeners in the region of 35,000 people. Again the response was overwhelming.
Thursday night saw Graham speaking to 60 key spiritual leaders in our city and many of them were inspired to hear how one man’s obedience challenged nations to the core. As I listened to some of the conversations afterwards it excited me to hear how many of these leaders felt that they can make a difference and that it is possible to change the course of history in our beautiful city.
Saturday the 8th October was also a special day. Graham shared at a men’s breakfast and he challenged these men to be what God has created them to be. He challenged them to stand up and be counted and once again many of these men felt challenged and convinced to sign the Individual Commitment form. Later that day Graham spoke at a Revival SA meeting where 150 intercessors came together to hear the story of the start of the GDOP.
It was my privilege to welcome Graham at our church service the Sunday morning at SouthPoint. This was a very special morning. As Graham shared his testimony for the last time on this trip, I could not have thanked God enough for the awesome privilege we had to hear him speak. He inspired, challenged and encouraged us here in Australia with such humility.
It is such an honour to have been part of the first “wave” as well as the second “wave” and as we wait in anticipation to see how the third “wave” or “positive tsunami”, as Graham calls it, spreads out let’s keep on DOING THE RIGHT THING AND DO IT RIGHT NOW!!
